Gods of the World - Volume 3

Innos gave unto mankind the power to hear him and to speak unto him. He gave them the power to work mighty wonders; and he named it magic. By this gift could men shape the world according to their will. No bounds did Innos set before them. Thus men came to share in the divine power of creation. But all men were made equal, and this pleased them not. Therefore took Innos from the ungrateful the gift of magic. Yet the few who showed themselves thankful, those did Innos set above all others.

Soon were these men revered and feared, and they were called priests. Yet even among them arose many who grew discontent. And it came to pass that they prayed unto Adanos and forgot their beginning. Thus was the circle of the priests divided. Wars arose, and the faith in the almighty power of the gods was soon but a fading myth. Thus were the priests divided: those who followed Adanos were named Mages of Water, but the votaries of Innos were called Mages of Fire.
