Gods of the World - Volume 2

From the Beginning of Time: There was yet no day, neither night, and no living being moved upon the world. Then did Innos appear unto the world, and all was illuminated by his light. And Innos bestowed life upon the world. Yet no creature could abide in the fullness of his light, therefore he created the sun; but the light was yet too great. Then Innos divided himself, and brought forth Beliar. And Beliar gave unto the world the night; thus could mankind come to be. Then Innos divided himself once more, and brought forth Adanos. And Adanos gave unto mankind many gifts: versatility, knowledge, curiosity, and courage. And Innos beheld his work, and he was pleased.

He decreed that mankind should be entrusted wholly unto Adanos, so that he himself might rest. But Beliar was consumed with envy, for men worshipped him not, but rested during the night; and thus his wrath was roused, and he shaped for himself a man that should worship him alone. Yet the man was as all other men, and Beliar was burning with wrath and he slew the man, and said: If they will not worship me, then they shall fear me. And he wrought death, and took life away from mankind.
