Bloodflies
About the Flies
However, where there is damp soil and humid air, the flies gather, attracted by the sweat of other creatures, especially mammals. With their stingers, they kill their victims and then feast on their blood.
To harvest this stinger is a skill many a swamp hunter has acquired. It is necessary to stabilize the abdomen - by whichever means is irrelevant, as one might as well kneel onto it to provide said stability - to then twist the stinger until it comes off by itself. The initial twist, the one to get it moving, requires some strength, but one should not apply brute force. One should pay no mind to the entrails that might potentially still be attached to the stinger, and simply cut them off.
