For this, spread gall on the eyes. Gall tastes bitter. When this bitterness is taken up by the eye, meaning: when we look at the bitterness, wisdom grows from it. We become seeing! Bitterness and wisdom exclude each other. They are opposites!

Tears, suffering, and disappointment are bitter, but wisdom is the comforter in every emotional pain. Bitterness and wisdom form an alterity. Where there is bitterness, wisdom is absent; and where there is wisdom, there can be no bitterness.
