The Fire Lizard Compendium

The fire lizard loves warmth and is often found where sun and water meet – on rocky shores or near hot springs.For hours it lies motionless in the sun, absorbing its heat. It can be distinguished from ordinary lizards by the tall fiery spine sail along its back, which gives it its distinctive appearance. But more than that: within this sail gathers an energy that enables the creature to breathe fire.This natural defense makes the fire lizard a true challenge for anyone who dares to approach it.

To extract the fiery spine sail of a fire lizard, two long incisions are made along the back on either side, about a hand's breadth from the ridge. Then one carefully cuts beneath it, loosening it piece by piece from the tissue, taking care not to damage the inner glands. Only then can the sail be removed in one piece – a rare and valuable material.
