Volume I: Common Beasts
The common scavenger is one of the most widespread animals. This large, flightless bird consumes anything that comes within its reach. It favors open areas as its territory, most often sparse forests or plains. It repels intruders with notable persistence and ferocity.
The most distinctive feature of the scavenger is its cranial anatomy, a structure serving several functions:
• Skull crown: overlapping bone plates, reinforced by a complex network of tendons.
Unlike predatory beasts, the scavenger prefers to drive competing feeders from food sources, relying on numbers and aggressive behavior.
The scavenger moves with unexpected agility. It roams in loose groups, relying on strong hind legs for long leaps and displaying considerable dexterity. When threatened, the group coordinates attacks with loud calls, amplified by the afore-mentioned skull chambers.
